Keyword Selection Tips

Generally 1 to 2 primary and 2 to 3 secondary keyword phrases are enough. Choosing the right keyword and phrases for your website is an important part of your SEO compaign and here we go:

Overlapping Keyword Phrases

It makes sense to optimize the same page for keyword phrases that share some of the same keywords. A page that ranks well for ‘search engine optimization’ should easily be able to rank well for ‘professional search engine optimization’ or ‘search engine optimization services’.

Only use a few keyword phrases per page

Shorter and smarter ones really hits well. A web page optimized for too many keywords sounds to be robot created. Search engines are smart enough to detect them and such pages can only get eye balls from visitors. A web page can lose its focus with more keyword density.

Misspelled Keywords

Wrong is right sometimes. It seems a bit awkward using misspelled keywords in your body copy or page but it really works. Looks unprofessional but misspelled alternatives of keyword lend a hand targeting frequently used search terms.

Capitalized Keywords

It’s a major misconception among the webmasters as most of the search engines are not case sensitive. INDIA is treated same as ‘India’.

Hyphenated Keywords

Hyphens are treated as a space by all the major search engines. If a word id split in to two via a hyphen, check for the most commonly used version. Optimizing your web page for the most searched keyword can be a better idea.

Localized Keyword Research

It can be termed as the most important factor while selecting appropriate keywords. People use different terminology in different countries. In the U.S., People look for ‘taxicabs’ while in India ‘Car hire’ is the more popular term. Make sure exploring the most common words used to describe the products or services, you are promoting in a specific part of word.

Plural Keyword Versions

Again it recommended that you optimize for the common version of your popular keywords. Search engines results for singular and plural search phrases are different, though some of them are using stemming.
